Beginners Scrapbooking - Creating your first scrapbook project!
The Step by Step process from selecting the theme to completing your project.
Start by going through your picture and decide which pictures you would like to use in your scrapbook. Put them in order by theme... ie: Vacations, Holidays, School Field Trips, Birthdays, Weddings, Anniversaries, Get-togethers with friends, After School Activities, Dance Recitals there are many other themes that you can build on and these are just a few examples.
Now that you have sorted your pictures by theme, it is time to decide what theme you will focus on first. I have selected My Daughters 8th Birthday to use as an example.
Now you are off to the scrapbooking store to pick out the supplies that you will use with your pictures. You will need to purchase the following supplies. Keep your pictures with you so you can make sure your colors work together.
Scrapbook Album
Scrapbook Paper that fits the theme you selected ( I am picking out pink paper )
Stickers that fit your project theme (Check out our free scrapbooking printables These are free to download just make sure you print on acid free paper.
Acid Free Pens to write what you want on the pages
If you would like to use fonts you can purchase stick on letters. (We have free downloadable fonts for your scrapbooks here on Cherish-Creative-Scrapbooking.com take a look to see if you would like to use our fonts to save money.
Now that you have all of your supplies you are ready to sit down and get started with your project. Make sure you stay organized....
First take all of your supplies out of the back and arrange them on the table. Make sure you have plenty of space to work in with no other clutter.
Take out your first background paper and place your pictures on the background. You can get ideas of how you will layout the pictures by looking at other scrappers pages or by viewing sketches online. I will be putting together a scrapbook sketch page soon but until then you can visit SketchLovers.com for some ideas.
After laying out the pictures on the background the way you want them, use the tools that you purchased to crop the pictures to fit the places on the layout where you want them located.

Do not glue anything until all paper and pictures have been cut.
After you have everything cut and are happy with your layout, begin adhering the pictures and elements to the background.
Let everything dry and then place your page in your album.
Another way to get ideas is to go to a Crop or Expo in your area. Check out the Scrapbooking Events listed on our site to see if there are any events in your area. If you are lucky you may even find an event for Beginners Scrapbooking.
