Scrapbook Theme Selection

Album and Scrapbook Theme Selection

Making a decision on the Album and theme go hand in hand.  Many scrapbookers will have different themes throughout their scrapbook album.  However, some choose their albums carefully making sure that the look of the album will match the theme of their scrapbook contents.  For us addicted scrapbookers, planning a scrapbook and selecting a theme or themes is not a quick process.  We make very detailed decisions on how our scrapbook will be made up and we try to make our pages match gradually changing as you work your way through the book.

You can begin by selecting a theme that interests you.  Ask yourself a couple of questions before making your selection.

  • Are you wanting a scrapbook that you will keep for yourself or are you planning to  pass the scrapbook on to one of your children?

If you are planning to create a book to pass on to your children, make sure that you remember to include each child.  If you create one scrapbook featuring your toddler but you have another child that is older, you may cause your older child to feel left out and you may not get around to creating another book for your older child.  I recommend creating the book for the older child first or work on two books.  If you are working on two books you can create one page per book as you move forward.  This will help keep your children from feeling left out of mommy's hobby.

  • Would you like to work on your book for a short period of time and complete the book or would you like to work on the book over the years and complete after several years?

If you are scrapbooking the life of your child and the child is six years old, you will be working on the book for many years and will not get the gratification of completing the book.  I would not recommend this Scrapbook Theme Selection of your first theme.  We live in a fast paced society and are accustomed to instant gratification.  With scrapbooking the only instant or short term gratification is the completion of a page.  I would recommend that you start out with a theme that you already have all of the pictures needed to complete.  After you get the gratification of your first scrapbook, you can move forward with scrapbook themes that you will work on over a longer period of time.  The key here is not to lose interest in scrapbooking before you complete your first book.  If you are married, a wedding theme would be great theme to start with.  You should be able to complete a wedding album within six months.  You can also create a scrapbook of your life as a child and work up through graduation.  This is also a theme that will take the least time to complete.  You would create two pages for each year of school.  One page would consist of a class picture and the other page would feature your portrait and some pictures of a few of your childhood friends.

  • There are many themes to choose from with the most popular being wedding, baby boy, baby girl, A.B.C. Baby, Disney and seasonal themes.

After selecting your Scrapbook Theme Selection, begin searching for the album for your scrapbook.  The most common scrapbook album is the 12x12.  There are also 8x10, 9x9 and 6x6 albums that you can choose from.  When selecting the album, first decide the maximum number of pictures you will want to place on your pages.  Though the 6x6 album will not hold many pictures on each page, it is very popular to those looking to create a brag book that they may take along in their purse.  Scrapbook Theme Selection is not a simple task...
